LE SOLEIL NOIR (THE BLACK SUN) — Visual artist Ramon Kubicek in conversation with Professor Norman Cornet about Ramon’s painting, “Le Soleil Noir (The Black Sun)”.
This painting references words from a poem by a Gerard de Nerval, a late nineteenth century French poet. The black sun is the energy of melancholy, which in its extreme manifestations is destructive, but which in its milder forms can help us grow a soul. Le Soleil Noir is also a reference to alchemy, to the stage of “nigredo”, the conscious descent into darkness, the junk, the rejected, the messiness of our lives, so that we might redeem it through awareness and acceptance before ascending to finally embrace the stage of gold. Yet another reference is the threat of Apocalypse, given the dire circumstances of life at this time. Within all this, I work to find and express beauty.
WHERE ART THOU? (BLACK SUN SERIES) — Visual artist Ramon Kubicek in conversation with Professor Norman Cornet about Ramon's painting, "Where Art Thou".
This tall painting is meant to emphasize the verticality of our aspirations. We look upwards for redemption, but in this painting a black sun inhabits the top right, so in our journey we have to experience the contradictions and dark revelations of the black sun before we are liberated.
AMULET SERIES: Rune Voyager 1 and 2 — Visual artist Ramon Kubicek in conversation with Professor Norman Cornet about Ramon's paintings, "Amulet Series: Rune Voyager 1 and 2”.
These twin paintings, both tall and narrow, both encased in aluminum, refer to the “rune’ language of ancient Norse and Germanic. This language looks like markings found in Nature. Some researchers interested in magic and spirituality have adapted rune symbolism for ways of reading the Future. Here Ramon has drawn Rune symbols on paddles.
DREAMING OF LANDSCAPE — Visual artist Ramon Kubicek in conversation with Professor Norman Cornet about Ramon’s painting, “Dreaming of Landscape”.
Landscape for Ramon represents the freedom that Nature offers. Often urban life has us living in enclosures of thought, rectangles of judgment, but the same molecules inhabit us as inhabit Nature wherever we live.
Ramon presents a selection of 24 paintings, mostly from the past decade, from his diverse portfolio, and talks extensively about his evolution as a writer and visual artist, his approach and observations about the creative process. With a Q& A session with the audience.
