THE SOFT DESCENT OF ALL OUR LOSSES
Acrylic, inks, oil pastel, pen on canvas.
24" x 36". 2019.
Is it possible to grasp one's whole life in one moment? Or to see one's life with all its suffering as part of a natural cycle much larger than our ability to grasp it?
STRING THEORY
Acrylic, oil stick, oil pastel, pen, thread, on canvas
26" x 26". 2019.
SOLD
String theory belongs to physics and an attempt to comprehend the forces that make up the Universe ( a bit of the equation is hereby included). And Music is the universal language connecting all living things (so, a few notes from Beethoven's Ode to Joy). Flowers are the evidence that we live surrounded by grace. A flower may give us a glimpse of the physics and the music if we are open enough. A few strands of thread are included to show there are crafts that combine the practical and the artistic in harmonious ways.
SCHEHERAZADE AT TIFFANY'S
Acrylic, oil stick, oil pastel, pen on canvas
30" x 40" . 2019.
Scheherazade is the female protagonist of the Arabian Nights. She outwits the Sultan, not only saving her life but also the lives of other women doomed through their beauty to be killed the day after the wedding, of a forcible marriage to the Sultan. Every night she tells a different story but makes sure to not end the story, thereby ensuring her survival for at least one more night. And this continues for one thousand nights, at which point the Sultan gives in. She is not only a heroine of one of the most important narratives of world literature, she is also a symbol of the power and importance of story, of narrative. In this painting, she appears in the doorway of a jewelry store and everyone there is affected. The middle of the painting is a semi-abstract compilation of jewels and piles of gold.
AMERICAN PASTORAL
Acrylic, oil stick, oil pastel, pen on canvas.
30" x 40". 2019
An ironic look at the American dream. The pastoral associations are undercut by the military vehicles and missile launchers. The people underneath the billboard are sleeping or drunk. The billboard is advertising rum – one of the elements in the creation of the slave trade through the demand for labour to harvest sugar cane in America.

THE VIVIDNESS OF SEEDS IN DARKNESS
Acrylic, oil stick, oil pastel, pen on canvas
18" x 36". 2019 .
The seed contains the plant in full, but as possibility. To produce the plant, the seed must lie in the earth, in darkness, but in that darkness, with the right combination of factors there is an explosion of life and light.

22" x 28". 2019.

THE PROBLEM OF VERISIMILITUDE IN A TIME OF PLAGUES
Acrylic, oil stick, oil pastel, pen, pencil, collaged artist drawings, on canvas
30" x 40". 2019.
Verisimilitude is a reference to what is called believability in literature. Today we are confronted with so many narratives we have a hard time deciding which are important, which are true or valid. In one instance in one place, many different versions of city blocks and many different narratives come to life through the gathering and passing by of people, but no one may see what is actually happening, even if it is an ascension.
CHANGE OF PLANS
Acrylic, oil stick, oil pastel, pen on canvas.
24" x 36". 2019 .
The associations of comfort and play with humans in a calm sea are now challenged and overturned through the ship’s explosion.
MOVING INTO POSITION
Acrylic, oil stick, oil paste, pen on canvas.
18" x 24". 2019 .
The circles don't stop moving, though they may be slowing down.
